Challenge
Our client is a leading provider of fresh-cut fruit, apple slices, vegetable and snacking solutions in a variety of blends, sizes, and packaging options. From its beginnings with one processing facility and 50 employees in Houston, Texas, they have grown to multiple facilities, hundreds of employees, and a national distributor to some of the largest and best retailers in the country.
As part of their growth, they acquired several other food companies in Canada and other states in the U.S. As a result, the company was challenged with consolidating and merging cultures, resources, and employee-focused programs, specifically compensation programs.
A new, consolidated incentive bonus program became a high priority to the Board under a new brand. The company was also challenged with having systems that were not integrated, so they didn't have a single, consolidated headcount report for conducting audits and performing an analysis based on historical data.
Solution
NB Business Solutions requested multiple headcount and payroll reports and examined paper files to develop a single report containing both current and historical data. We then analyzed and developed various bonus schemes and options for discussion as well as a way to consolidate pay programs.
Mapping over employees based on their jobs and aligning them to the parent company’s pay practices and structure followed this step. Analysis was conducted for each scenario, and we provided recommendations based on the impact on employees’ compensation as well as total cost impact to the company.
Results
By creating a framework and logic to look at data and provide preliminary thoughts and recommendations for further discussion, we were able to present a consolidated bonus plan to the Board.
As part of this, we developed a variety of options and scenarios with cost tied to each bonus plan. In addition to creating the Board materials, we coached the Chief Human Resources Officer on how to present them. To ensure everyone in the company understood the new compensation and bonus plans, we helped prepare communications that informed employees of the change and provided management tips on the optimal way to distribute the news to employees.
